Historic Place Names Project 25 June 2026

On Thursday 25th June we will be hosting a workshop at Llangors Community Centre from 1pm until 6pm which is being run by the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales. With support from Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority the Royal Commission is inviting local communities to share their knowledge of place names in their area.
We’re looking for the names of: houses, fields, streams, woods, hills, cliffs, crossroads, river pools, hafods, cowsheds, paths, mines, rocks, pubs, sheepfolds, places where sheep are washed, moorlands, bogs, wells, fords, waterfalls etc., in Welsh or English, contemporary or historical.
We encourage you to bring historic documents to the workshop, such as: estate maps, sales catalogues, local history books, eisteddfod essays, lists of local names collected by family members, poems by local bards.
To help the workshop flow we will provide refreshments and home made cakes!
