Internal Plaque Descriptions

 

Plaque 1    
 

In memory of Margaret the wife of Rodrick Price late of Gwainymnyach in the Parish. Died 7th August 1786 aged 36.“The old must die we all agree likewise the young we plainly see. Therefore repent and pray for grace for here is no abiding place.

  In memory of Mary the daughter of Thomas Winter of this Parish that
died 9th August 1784 aged 17.
“In sickness fore long time I bore, physicians were in vain, till God didplease death should me seize and ease me of my pain.”

  Near this place lie the remains of Thomas Powell late of Gwainymynach in this Parish.
Esquire who died May 24th 1794 aged 51 years.
“Pale death can hardly find another so good a husband, so kind a father.
His actions were to all so kind that scarce his equal you can find.”
Also underneath are deposited the remains of Mary relict of the said Thomas Powell who ended a most exemplary life January 6th (?) 1803 aged 51 years.

Underneath lie the remains of Ann wife of John Williams of
Gwain-y-minich in this Parish, Smith; who died
August the 14th 1797 aged 57.
“Dear husband for me cease to mourn
it is but vain you see for I cannot to you return
but you shall come to me.”
Plaque 5    
  To perpetuate the memory of Charles Havard of Llwyn-Rida in this Parish. Gent who ended a most Exemplary Life September 9th 1774 aged 61 years. Also In memory of Gwen wife of the aforesaid. She died March 18th 1780 aged 67.
“In this cold grave lies consummation are the second nuptials of a happy pair, Whom death once parted but in vain for he himself had made the one again.”Mason: Powell Talgarth

  Near this place lie the remains of Morgan Jenkins
late of Ty Mawr in this village who died
September 17th 1785 aged 60
Also the remains of Joan wife of the said
Morgan Jenkins who did (stet) April 19th 1797
aged 71.And also of Gwenllian relict of David Price late of the Parish of St. John the Evangelist Gent who died January the 11th 1798 aged 78.

Plaque 7    
 

Near this hallowed spot were deposited the remains of Margaret relict of David Price Cleric formerly Vicar of Llanbadarnfawr in the County of Cardigan. Daughter of Thomas Havard, an honest and respectable freeholder of this Parish. She departed this life on the 13th January 1777. Long familiar with pain and affliction she had learned in that best of schools ADVERSITY to submit herself with mild and humble resignation to the will of her God and she contemplated the period of dissolution, that period so awful to many as the termination of her suffering and as a glorious

introduction to the mercy of Him at whose right hand are joys for evermore.
She left five orphans of whom three are still living: Sarah David and Thomas by the second of whom in AD 1812 has been raised this humble record of the exit still mournful to his recollection of a revered and beloved parent.

  Underneath lie the remains of Thomas son of Thomas Price of Ty Mawr of this village who died January 7th 1801 aged two years and seven months.“Jesus said suffer little children and forbid them not to come unto me; for of such is the Kingdom of Heaven.”

nderneath are deposited the remains of Thomas Williams late of Llwynrida in this Parish Gent who departed this life May 19th 1828 aged 86 years.
“Therefore be he also ready: for such an hour as yea think not the son of man cometh.” Mathew C(hapter) 24 V(erse) 44Also underneath are deposited the remains of Margaret relict of the above mentioned Thomas Williams Gent, who departed this life May 10th 1832 aged 79.

Also of Thos. Williams of MountStreet (stet) in town of Brecon, Gent who died April 25th 1850 aged 84 years.

In the book by Theophilus Jones, “The History of Brecknockshire” Volume 4 (Glanusk Edition 1930), reference is made to the memorial graves under the altar.

Some of the recordings in Mr. Jones’ book refers to the names of:
Watkin Jones and John Jones died 1674
Thomas Lewis of Wayn-y-Mynach (stet), he died in 1615
Howell John Phillip of Trostre, died 1669
Owen William, who died in 1615, he had ten children*
